CECECO Held Seminar on Hydrogen’s Role in the Sustainable Energy Transition at Baku State University

On 8 October 2026, the Economic Cooperation Organization Clean Energy Center (CECECO) held a seminar titled “The Role of Hydrogen in the Sustainable Energy Transition: From Theory to Practice” at Baku State University. The seminar focused on green energy solutions, particularly hydrogen, and included the presentation of CECECO’s publication, Hydrogen Knowledge Guide: Key Terms and Definitions. Students from the Faculties of Chemistry, Ecology and Soil Science, Physics, and Biology attended the session.

Mirhuseyn Taghiyev, Specialist of the Protocol Sector, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the importance of international platforms such as COP29 and WUF13, renewable energy, and green hydrogen in addressing climate and sustainable development challenges. He also discussed ongoing cooperation between Baku State University and CECECO, as well as plans for future collaboration.

Nigar Shukurova, Project Coordinator at CECECO, introduced the Centre, its mission, and its activities in promoting clean energy cooperation across the ECO region. She highlighted the growing importance of hydrogen in the energy transition, the challenges associated with developing the hydrogen sector, and the role of knowledge sharing and capacity building in advancing clean energy solutions.

Ms. Elvira Kazimova's presentation provided an overview of hydrogen's value, its classification in current scientific research, hydrogen storage, derivatives, and transportation, as well as Azerbaijan's National Hydrogen Outlook document.

As a part of the seminar CECECO's recent publication "Hydrogen Knowledge Guide: Key Terms and Definitions", its structure and main topics were also presented to the students. The publication covers key aspects of the hydrogen value chain, including hydrogen fundamentals, production methods, storage, derivatives, infrastructure, transportation, safety, and applications.
